So far, Journal Bearing Apparatus available was with oil manometers which possessed so many problems, mainly air bubbles, overflow of oil, due to which full pressure could not be developed. Also bearing having very large radial clearance presented question about application of theory itself. Hence, we developed a journal bearing apparatus with a practical radial clearance of 0.2 mm and with a pressure gauge. Clearance of 0.2 mm eliminated question about application of theory and use of rotatable pressure gauge avoided air bubble problem & also it allowed development of pressure fully. Also, the apparatus allows accurate determination of friction torque and determination of oil flow. Rotating pressure gauge gives polar pressure distribution. The graph of coefficient of friction vs. bearing modules can be drawn which demonstrates the boundary and fluid film lubrication. The apparatus is accurate and simple means to study a practical journal Bearing.
